Afro-Semitic Experience

You’ve never heard anything like it! It’s an American roots jazz band with a difference. These talented Jewish-American and African-American musicians merge their musical roots, creating something exciting, refreshing, and meaningful. Their melodies and grooves, along with their intentional merging of jazz with the spiritual and the sacred, embody the notion that people of different faiths, races, and beliefs can come together, celebrating and building community. Have a refreshment as you enjoy their dynamic mix of originals and arrangements of tunes from Jewish and African-diasporic cultures.
BIO

The Afro-Semitic Experience began in 1998 as a duo with David Chevan (bass) and Warren Byrd (piano). Today it also includes Will Bartlett (tenor sax, clarinet and flute), Saskia Laroo (trumpet), Alvin Carter, Jr. (drums), Jocelyn Pleasant (percussion). They have recorded eight CDs and are working on their ninth. The Afro-Semitic Experience performs at music festivals, on university campuses, in jazz clubs and at worship services of every kind. www.afrosemiticexperience.net
