Arabic, Mediterranean, Spirituality and Rap: Israeli popular music today is vital and dynamic, complex, diverse, colourful and beautiful. In this eye-opening session, using a playlist of leading performing artists, Benjamin Rubin shows how popular music in Israel both reflects and affects changes in Israeli society. Original English translations of the lyrics will be provided.

Benjamin Rubin is a Toronto lawyer. Under his pen name, eBenBrandeis, he composes poetry, lyrics and YouTube video poems. He has edited a book of contemporary Jewish humour, translated a Hebrew autobiography of life in pre-war Pinsk, Poland, and was creator of NewHouseOfIsrael.net, an online Zionist conceptual art project. www.ebenbrandeis.com
